Get Lost in the Mystery of Everything We Never Said
Everything We Never Said by Sloan Harlow is December’s must-read for Young Adult Thriller lovers! The perfect book to read while wrapped up in a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate or tea, this YA thriller is the author’s debut novel. If you enjoyed One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus, you’ll love this one.
About the Book
Ella and Hayley were best friends, but after a tragic accident that took Hayley’s life, Ella is left with haunting feelings of guilt. Her memories of that night are fragmented, and her guilt only deepens as she reconnects with Hayley’s boyfriend, Sawyer, who is grieving in his own way. Despite the complexity of their feelings, Ella and Sawyer are drawn to one another. In an attempt to piece together the events surrounding Hayley’s death, Ella finds Hayley’s journal. But the more she reads, the more she questions the perfect image she once had of Hayley and Sawyer’s relationship, as new revelations lead to even more confusion and suspense. With themes of guilt, grief, friendship, secrets, and romance, Everything We Never Said offers readers a deeply emotional and intense experience. The final chapters build to a crescendo of twists that will have you reflecting back on every page.
Why I Loved This Book
I was initially drawn to Everything We Never Said as the YA monthly pick at Barnes & Noble, paired with a stunning cover design that hinted at something special. The story didn’t disappoint; the character development was incredibly engaging, and the suspense and plot twists kept me hooked throughout. Sloan Harlow crafted a debut novel that deeply connects readers to the emotions of her characters, making each twist even more impactful.

If you enjoyed the suspenseful twists and intense emotions in Everything We Never Said, there are a few other YA thrillers you’ll want to add to your reading list. One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus offers a similar suspense-driven experience, and A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson brings the same heart-pounding intrigue. For a deeper exploration of complex emotions and layered storytelling, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher is another compelling choice. Although this novel is a standalone, it would be exciting to see Sloan Harlow explore a sequel or even a story from Sawyer’s perspective in the future!
